SALEKA haunts the turner home in affecting new “THE SKY CRIES” video directed by her father M. Night Shyamalan
Rising singer-songwriter Saleka has released the emotive new music video for her track, “The Sky Cries”, which appears in season two, episode eight of the hit the acclaimed Apple Original series, “Servant” and is available digitally via Lakeshore Records.
Directed by M. Night Shyamalan – celebrated auteur and filmmaker, and executive producer of “Servant” – “The Sky Cries” finds the singer haunting and dancing through the halls of the Turners’ home as members of her band play beside her. “This was the fourth video Saleka has made and she was so confident in her performance that I treated her like I would a normal actress,” Shyamalan says. While Saleka says; “I was very intimidated and nervous leading up to the shoot because there were a lot of physical logistics with the choreography and I’ve never been directed by my dad before, but once we were on set it actually felt really natural. He always emphasizes the emotional intention over everything. Since I wrote the song, we were able to easily talk about the meaning of each line, how it connects to the movement and contributes to the arc of the overall video.”
In “The Sky Cries,” Saleka portrays a character called Vivian Dale, seen as a ghostly figure moving through the house owned by Servant’s protagonists. “Her movements vacillate between sharpness and fluidity, as she takes moments of pain and turns them into power and beauty,” Saleka says.
“We actually shot this video right before we started Season Three, so it was a great way to kick things off for all of us,” said Shyamalan. “The ‘Servant’ crew who shot the video had such a good time seeing the house thru the new lens of Saleka as Vivian Dale.”
