“Promethean Approach” exhibition by Kevin Klamminger at UNIT, London on view until December 8th

Klamminger’s work reflects a fascination with ancient symbols and the iconography of knights, heroes, and hybrid creatures. Yet, these themes are intricately layered, inviting viewers to explore deeper meanings. In the striking piece "Lookout,” a centurion is depicted as just a hand and nose, evoking the whimsical essence of the knight-errant, Don Quixote. This character, who steadfastly clings to the fantasies of chivalric tales, serves as a metaphor for the conscious mind grappling with the enigmas of the subconscious.

With a distinct sense of humour, Klamminger engages the imagination, drawing from childhood stories and fairytales while challenging our perceptions of reality. He notes that many of his paintings could have taken an abstract form, yet Promethean Approach is an intentional exploration of figurative expression that seeks to project meaning through recognisable imagery.
