CHANEL E LA DANZA - Notre Sacre
Notre Sacre is a contemporary adaptaon of Stravinsky's famous Rite of Spring. Choreographed and staged by Blanca Li, writen by Abd Al Malik, and with David Grimal as musical director, the show brings together dance, music and contemporary poetry. On stage, the 18 dancers of the Compagnie Blanca Li are accompanied successively by the perfomances of Abd Al Malik and the musical ensemble Les Dissonances, led by David Grimal. The sound universe Abd Al Malik has created is composed of recited poems and previously unpublished texts that echo the electronic music created by beatmaker Bilal, based on the folk songs that once inspired Igor Stravinsky. A merging and communing of so many different elements in a show imagined as a symbol of unity and living together in harmony. Ever commited to contemporary creaon and dance, CHANEL is honoured to support this show, which connues the historical links between Gabrielle Chanel and The Rite of Spring. In 1913, Gabrielle Chanel experienced a veritable aesthec shock when she atended a performance of Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring choreographed by Nijinsky, lead dancer at the Ballets Russes company established by Sergei Diaghilev. Later, it was through Misia Sert, the Polish-born socialite, pianist and muse to the Paris avant-garde, that the couturier met Diaghilev, becoming his friend, costume designer and patron. When the founder of the Ballets Russes struggled to find the necessary funding to revive The Rite of Spring, it was Gabrielle Chanel who helped him, thus enabling the ballet that had so marked her to be revived at the end of 1920. Since then, it has been reinterpreted by some of the greatest choreographers, including Maurice Béjart, Pina Bausch and Angelin Preljocaj, and Stravinsky's The Rite of Spring has never ceased to inspire. Now, in 2024, it's the turn of Abd Al Malik, Blanca Li and David Grimal to revisit this masterpiece. Abd Al Malik is a friend of the House of CHANEL. He is a poet, composer and writer who recently published Juliette, which launching event took place at the Librairie 7L. He was interviewed by CHANEL about his book recomendaons (In the Library with), revealing his favourite books and authors. He also discussed about how reading led him to wring. His approach is all about adding a powerful, oral and musical narrave dimension. For her part, dancer, choreographer and friend of the House Blanca Li, celebrated for her creavity and singular technique, was elected to the French Academy of Fine Arts in April 2019. For the ceremony of investure, she wore a suit that was created by the CHANEL Haute Couture ateliers, with the contribuon of embroiderer Lesage. CHANEL also made the costumes for the dancers, extras and audience for Blanca Li's Le Bal de Paris, an energec, immersive virtual reality show which won an award at the 78th Venice Film Fesval in 2021 in the "Best Virtual Reality Experience" category. David Grimal, a violinist equally commited to the solo and chamber repertoire, performs on the world's greatest stages and guides Les Dissonances in this unique musical interpretaon. Notre Sacre was performed at the Paris Philharmonic on 12th and 13th April 2024.
