Under the theme “My Utopia Today”, São Paulo Fashion Week started this Monday its 47th edition asking the question “what’s your utopia?” and making people wonder their goals to a better and more humane future and how fashion will help everyone come together to make that happen. Lenny Niemeyer, a Brazilian beachwear established designer, took a trip to an unknown land to present her High Summer 2020 collection. She was inspired by an original map of South America from 1700 that belonged to her family to develop emblematic creations. In a nostalgic way, Lenny uses an imaginary cartography, exploring rivers, flora, mineral riches and constellations throughout the pieces. In the mood of the season, organic modeling contrasts with geometric shapes. Natural fiber pieces, transparencies and pattern overlaps create a three-dimensional effect. Items with embroidery and applications highlight the productions. In the color chart, the imposing royal blue, orange and neon green command the looks, while white makes the palette counterpoint.

PatBo presented a collection in a Bossa Nova revival, among tropical vintage patterns, toucans, flowers and fresh water. Going back to a “Brazil Postcard” theme, this season she took inspiration from an eternal summer vacation, with decorated straw bags and kitten shades from the 50s. Keeping to its ethos of an established style and cold standards, this season the label introduced a collection of garments with vibrant colours and prime styles from the 60s.

Gloria Coelho had the beachwear in the core of her collection, mixing with Nordic and British references from the series Game of Thrones. Some of the pieces were made in a collaboration with the designer Andreza Chagas, owner of a brand of jeans that proposes to drastically reduce water consumption in the chain production. Following her characteristic color chart, exclusive fabrics and cuts, accessories as hood and belts highlighted the theme.

Flavia Aranha debuted on São Paulo Fashion Week after 9 years of her brand. She presented a collection full of references to Brazilian nature and minimalist roots and showed the importance of sustainability for surviving humanity and fashion. Ethics and honesty are very important factors for the designer as well as the process of how her pieces are made. She uses only natural pigments and fabrics, in addition to worrying about the origin and environmental impact of all its production.
