On Sunday evening, fashion’s finest gathered outside Tate Modern, defying the weather conditions to witness the fourth leg of the Tommy Hilfiger show in collaboration with Lewis Hamilton and H.E.R., the crownjewel of the Sunday’s LFW programme to say the least.
In the depths of the industrial modern art musuem building, guests were ushered to their seats as the room filled up with orange-lit fog. Could we have asked for a more dramatic backdrop? As A-listers, not limited to Anna Wintour and Billy Porter, took their places, a group of live performers took place and started singing along the beats of ‘Take Me Back To London’, no doubt a not so obvious nod to the home country of the Formula One turned Fashion Designer Lewis Hamilton.
It wouldn’t be a Tommy Hilfiger show if there weren’t some familiar faces in the model line-up, the American designer lived up to his reputation by opening the show no other than the living legend of catwalks herself, Naomi Campbell. The top model came strutting down the runway dressed in a neon yellow and grey tracksuit, that glows up in the dark, not that she needed more of a glow-up. Naomi wasn’t the only top tier model the Amercian designer had blessed his audience with, a great variety of famous as well as diverse faces – and bodies, from Erin O’Connor, Winnie Harlow to Kate Moss’ little sister Lottie Moss.
The highligher yellow followed suit throughout the rest of the collection, in the form of caps, jumpers or scarfs adding a touch of colour to the monochromatic looks that were shown on the runway. Loose fitting joggers were detailed with big utilitairan pockets, matched with boxy top stiched jackets and boiler suits. Hamilton put his signature on the collection by tagging it with the designs of his tattoos that read “Loyalty”. As beige merged from hues of soft pink to navy blue representative of Tommy Hilfiger, we knew we had reached the next part of the collection. From here onwards Mister Hilfiger sent down brand classics, not limited to bermudas in an array of colors, leather-pattended bomber jackets, pinstriped blazers and the classic knit.
What struck us during the show, was how scarfs made appearnces throughout the collection in different functions, sometimes a neckerchief, then as a styling instrument to facilitate the effortlessly layered looks when tied around the waist, worn as a dress or used as a head scarf. Seventy-one looks down the line Tommy Hilfiger Lewis Hamilton and H.E.R., brought sophisticated athleisure to the runway perfectly merging the the classic Tommy-style with the free-spirited nature of the British capital.
