My Pretty Child

Model Sharar Lazima defies the definition of pretty in this French Fries editorial. Stylist Mayuko Saito, hair Aiko Tanaka, and makeup Kanako Shiraishi place tiny globe-like ornaments on her face, shove a pair of oversized eyeglasses to wear, and cast black-shadowed stars on the side of her eyes to replicate the foreign beauty standards that have started to snake their ways into the terrain of fashion, culture, and beauty. Director Minami Shishido and photographer Shiori Ohta document the rays of Sharar, who camouflages the old while transitioning to the rebirth of self. Let’s welcome this pretty child.
