Fresh ink: Chloe Baines x Toyo Tsuchiya partner with their latest release of t-shirts

Chloe Baines launched in Selfridges last year with a range created around the concept of re-using unloved tents - those littered over festival sites at the end of a heavy weekend (ha, remember them?) and damaged donations that no longer fitted the bill. Continuing on their bid to tie us into looking at the trail left behind by our fashion needs, Chloe’s new collab with stylist and textile artist, Toyo aims to get us giving as much of a fuck about the planet we live on as we do our appearance, with a hand dyed, Shibori tee drop and no two pieces the same.

Taking the deadstock T-Shirts from their 2020 launch, and the second batch consciously selected from the Ethical Tee Company in East London, the range is made from certified organic cotton and produced in a factory with renewable energy.

The Shibori dyeing technique is a labour of love; an intricate and traditional Japanese process that Toyo perfected, resulting in three types of patterns selected to finish the tees, where the fabric is individually tied and bound in various methods to leave a resist-dye print. This could take up to half-an-hour per t-shirt for the initial process, predicting but never knowing the outcome until the ink has dried and the knots unbound. The contrast on the t-shirts is the perfect nod to minimalism with personality, being easy to style with any existing wardrobe - so no need to buy more and add to that fashion footprint - and the blue ink is natural indigo dye that ensures Chloe Baines only launches collections that are never a blot on the landscape.

This campaign, shot by a team of East London based creatives, encapsulates the real needs of any customer during the current climate. These T-shirts are the comfy boost that we all need on our Monday morning zoom meetings and walks in the park.
