No future at all, just a countdown

We are living in the Modern Era. And although this may sound appealing and futuristic, there is No future at all, just a countdown. There are plausible efforts being made globally at the crisis’ peak in order to counteract the inevitable harm caused to our beautiful Mother Nature. Whether that is enough, we’re all just riding the wave hoping for the best, still living our lives and trying to make the most out of this predicament. We are in the prelude to the dystopia that has been written, spoken and filmed about for centuries. This genre itself is an implicit warning call that has given us a head-start to reverse all the outlandish predictions that seem all too realistic now, as well as being a faucet for literary, artistic and fashion inspiration. Since we are creatures of adaption, we may as well embrace the process, make changes to our daily habits to help the planet bit by bit, but also look the part of epoch that we revel in.

We dive into the tunnel vision of Jannik Hanne, who photographs model & stylist Jul Dowerk as she struts the podium at centre-stage. The jet-black bob-cut complemented by the smokey eyes, conducted by Rabea Richwien, were both commending choices for this editorial. The hair portrays a staggering confidence and a divergence from social mores, which mirrors the time when a French actress named Polaire first implemented the look in the 1890s, yet she was heavily criticised for this look as it was hazardously outside of society’s norms, especially for woman. Today it is an immensely popular look, which illustrates the transience of views and values in our ever-changing society, and that daring does not mean illicit. The black-on-black styling, featuring Hotiç boots, an International Citizen dress and Massimo Dutti pants, all formulate to create a character from the noir Sin City, enhanced by the lighting directed by Ashley Young.
